I currently have Kaiser, but am offered a health insurance through United Health PPO. What would you pick?
I currently have Kaiser Personal advantage and can get United Health Care PPO through my company. I do not know whether I should stop my Kaiser insurance and sign up for the United Health Care PPO, or just stay with Kaiser and not sign up for the company's health insurance. I do not even know if it is good to have both, I am not sure if this works or not. What do you think? Any advice is appreciated, thanks for your help- Is Kaiser an HMO? My experiences with PPOs are far and away much more positive than my experience with HMO. All I can recommend is looking at the steps you have to take to get a referral for a spe t in your HMO. Your PPO should not have referrals at all. Your company should have a list of preferred providers - look at it including hospitals and see if your doctors are on it. PPOs will all you to see other physicians not on the list, but they usually only pay 70% rather than more. Check into that. HMOs sometimes will not pay anything if you see another doctor. My husband travels - a PPO is the only way to go. I love the flexibility and our current provider is outstanding!

What copays / coinsurance can you afford? What deductible you want etc. You can have two ins. plans if one is yours and one is through your spouse or significant other. One can be the primary and one secondary and it will cover what the other one doesn't
- Stick with Kaiser. Kaiser has its own hospitals, and all their care is under one roof. UHC allows you to choose from their lists of doctors, but they are spread out at different offices in your area, and each doctor may be affiliated with a different hospital. Futhermore, you'd have to get copies of any medical records which you pay for, often 15 cents a page and take them from doctor to doctor if you should get referred to a spe t, whereas Kaiser just looks on their computer
